Awards

SVUOM specialists had been awarded for their activity to corrosion research.

In year 2002 on ICC congress at Granada prof. Ing. Vladimír Číhal, DrSc. was rewarded by the Marcel Poubaix Award for his scientific activity in the field of corrosion of stainless steels. Prof. Číhal is author of two vou monographs ''Intercrystalic corrosion of stainless steels'' (CZ) and ''Stainless steels and alloys'' (CZ).

In 2005 NACE International awards its prestigious F.N. Speller Award to Dr. Dagmar Knotkova for recognizes significant contributions to corrosion engineering through some form of education or work. Dr. Knotkova was honored for her leadership in developing a system of classification of atmospheric corrosivity for both indoor and outdoor environments which has received worldwide acceptance and is widely used in commerce. Dr. Knotkova has authored more than 180 publications relating to corrosion.

The European Corrosion Medal is award to recognise achievements by a scientist, or group of scientists, in the application of corrosion science in the widest sence and is given every two years preferably on the occasion of a Europen Corrosion Congress (EUROCORR). In 2009 (6-10 September 2009, Nice) the laureate of this medal was Prof. Ing. Vladimir Číhal, CSc. (SVÚOM Ltd., VŠB-TU Ostrava). Prof. V. Číhal gave a lecture The role of titanium in stainless steels related to his work for which the medal was attributed.
